July 19th,1989 Alpine Valley

One of the great later era shows in the band's history. The first set is as good as it gets for the late 80s...top notch versions of Sugaree, Althea, West LA (the best version), Desolation Row and a monster Deal...second set may not have the most stellar set list, but each number is played very strong, with a shing Terrapin Station and culminating in a set ending Morning Dew that rivals 6-21 as best of the year...Garcia is stepping out on every song, the band is feeding off of his energy this stand in general...the 17th and 18th are also recommended

Set 2: Box Of Rain-> Foolish Heart-> Looks Like Rain, Terrapin Station-> Drums-> Jam-> The Other One-> The Wheel-> Morning Dew

Amazing run of shows, . Yes...Love the Althea.

they were on another level at this point. Summer 89, and spring / summer 90 was top notch dead. The sound is so intricate, jamming on top of the jam. Phil had reinvented his sound in a large way.

Last tent city tour. Summer 89-Giants stadium was up there as well

a truly fine show. Like you said, the first set is as good as it gets. All others pale.
